One-day training workshop on “Laboratory Management and Safety”

One-day training workshop on “Laboratory Management and Safety” was conducted by Section E2 (chemical sciences) of SLAAS for the Technical Officers and Laboratory Assistants of FCT on September 05, 2020. The workshop covered the sections, how to organize and maintain the laboratory, storage of flammables, acids and bases, introduction to Material Safety Data Sheet (MSDS), use of proper labeling system, maintaining a chemical inventory, proper chemical disposal, gas cylinders – moving, storing and hazards, laboratory hazards and safety. The lectures were conducted by the senior lectures Dr. Hasini Perea and Dr. Sashipraba Vithanachchi, Department of Chemistry, Faculty of Science, University of Colombo. Hands on experience session was carried out at the chemistry laboratories, Department of Chemistry, University of Colombo. Technical Officer (TO) Mr. Gayan Gamage, Laboratory Assistants (LA) Mr. Prasad Abeysiriwardhana, Mr. Kasun Wickramasinghe, and Ms. Kumudu Thilakarathne and Dr. Amila Jeewandara (Department of Applied Computing) from FCT attended the workshop.
