As part of the GTEC 23032 – Projects in Technology II course, second-year students from the Engineering Technology (ET) and Computing Technology (CT) degree programs at the Faculty of Computing and Technology (FCT) showcased their innovative project proposals at a vibrant poster presentation and evaluation session held at The Studio, 9th Floor, Lab Building. The event was organized under the guidance of course coordinators Dr. Amila Jeewandara and Dr. Chanaka Udayanga, with the aim of fostering creativity, collaboration, and applied learning among students.
This year’s poster session focused on the highly relevant and globally significant theme: “Finding Technological Solutions to Mitigate Climate Change and Global Warming.” Students were challenged to explore how emerging technologies can address pressing environmental issues such as carbon emissions, energy efficiency, waste reduction, sustainable agriculture, and green infrastructure.
Working collaboratively in teams, students developed project proposals that integrated scientific research, technical design, and environmental awareness. Each group presented a professionally designed poster highlighting their project’s concept, methodology, and anticipated impact.
The session provided a platform for meaningful interaction between students, academic staff, industry professionals, and peers. Evaluators praised the originality, feasibility, and societal relevance of the proposals, and students appreciated the constructive feedback that will support the further development of their projects.
This event reflects FCT’s continued commitment to experiential and project-based learning, while also contributing to the University of Kelaniya’s sustainability efforts—including its participation in the Green Metric World University Rankings and various national environmental initiatives.
